370: MY YOUTUBE SALUTE TO RUTHERFORD AND LUCY HAYES TURNED LEMONS INTO LEMONADE

Rock legend Meat Loaf once said, “Life is a lemon, and I want my money back.” While my photographer and I are huge fans of the Bat out of Hell icon, we didn’t want our money back when we explored the life of our 19th President Rutherford B. Hayes and his wife, First Lady Lemonade Lucy Hayes. Why did the media slap that nickname on the First Lady? Well, you’ll have to click on the link below to find out.

In the latest episode of Jefferson’s Salute to the Presidents, Tom and I take you on an adventure that covers the life of Rutherford B. Hayes – from his humble birth in central Ohio to his death at his home called Spiegel Grove.

Hayes may have been one of our more mundane and somewhat unknown Presidents, but our short YouTube video will bring the man called Rud to life through my eyes. One fun fact we didn’t mention in our show was the first Siamese cat in America was owned by Lucy Hayes – and initially, she named the cat ‘Miss Pussy’. It didn’t take long before the feline’s name was officially changed to ‘Siam’, however, and that was likely a good idea.

Without further ado, please click on the link below and watch our tribute to Rutherford B. Hayes and his wife Lemonade Lucy. Thank you for you continued support and the two of us hope you subscribe to our channel so you don’t miss any of our episodes.

Thomas Watson

My name is Thomas Watson and I've been a U.S. history fanatic since I was 9 years old. In 2013, I decided to take my passion to the next level when I purchased a Thomas Jefferson bobble head with the sole intention of photographing that bobble head at Presidential sites. From that first day on July 10, 2013 at Spiegel Grove in Fremont, Ohio, this journey has taken on a life of its own. Now, nearly 40,000 miles later, I thought it was time to share the experiences, stories, and photos of Jefferson's travels. Keep in mind, this entire venture has been done with the deepest respect for the men who held the office as our President; no matter what their political affiliations, personal ambitions, or public scandals may have been. This blog is intended to be a true tribute to the Presidents of the United States and this story will be told Through the Eyes of Jefferson. I hope you enjoy the ride!
