Although James Buchanan, our 15th President, is considered by most historians to be the worst Commander-In-Chief in American history, my photographer and I were honored to have walked in his footsteps where he lived, worked, and died. Buchanan’s biggest claim to Presidential fame is he’s still our nation’s only bachelor President. I’m not sure if that was because he was smart, homely, or just didn’t care for girls.
On Tuesday May 12, 2022, our good friends at GBS Media in Port Huron, Michigan published the 16th episode of our show ‘Hail to the Chief’. In that episode, Tom and I shared images and told stories about the historic sites we’ve visited in the past that were associated with Buchanan. At one point during the show, you’ll see a photo where I stood on Buchanan’s Presidential desk he had used in the White House.
While some Presidents were good, some were bad, and some were even ugly, my photographer and I try to bring the person to life and show a side of each President that you hadn’t seen or heard before.
